If a machine is more than halfway through its expected life and the repair would cost more than half the price of an equivalent new unit, replace it. Otherwise, repair. Our pricing page explains how quotes work.

Repairs that are almost always worth it
- Drain pump, inlet valve, door lock or lid switch
- Drive belt, dryer heating element, thermostat or thermal fuse
- Pump filter blockage, foreign object in the drum, cleaning and chemical wash
- Door seal (gasket) on a machine under 8 years old
Signs it is time to replace
- Loud grinding or roaring on spin (drum bearings) on a front loader over 8 years old – often a costly, labour-heavy job
- Rust on the drum or cabinet, or a cracked outer tub
- A second major fault within a year
- Control board failure on an old model where the part is no longer available

How much should a washing machine repair cost relative to a new one?
Aim to keep the repair under 50% of the replacement cost if the machine is past the midpoint of its life. For younger machines, even a bigger repair is usually sensible.
Are pre-owned washing machines a good option?
A properly tested pre-owned machine from a repairer who knows its history can be excellent value for rentals, second homes or tight budgets. Ask us what is available.
Do you charge to tell me the machine isn't worth repairing?
If we can tell from your video, there is no charge at all. If a visit is needed to confirm, the S$40–60 transport & diagnostic fee applies.
