Check these first (5 minutes)
- Select a Spin or Drain-only programme. If the machine simply stopped mid-cycle after a power cut, this alone can clear the water.
- Look at the drain hose. Make sure it is not kinked behind the machine and that it is not pushed too far down the floor trap or standpipe, which can create a siphon or blockage.
- Open the pump filter. On most front loaders it sits behind a small flap at the bottom front. Put a towel and a shallow tray down first – the water will come out. Coins, hairpins, bra wires and socks are the usual suspects.
- Listen. If you hear a humming pump but no water moving, the pump impeller is probably jammed or worn. If you hear nothing at all, it may be electrical or the pump has failed.

What a repair involves
For a drain pump replacement our technician tilts or unscrews the machine, removes the old pump housing, clears any debris from the sump, fits a new pump and tests a full drain and spin. On most brands (Samsung, LG, Electrolux, Bosch, Panasonic) the pump is a stocked part, so the job is usually finished on the first visit. You get an invoice and a 1-month warranty on the repair.

Prevent it happening again
- Empty pockets and use a laundry bag for small items and bras.
- Clean the pump filter every 1–2 months (more often with pets or lots of towels).
- Use HE / low-suds detergent – excess foam clogs pumps and sensors.
- Book a servicing clean once a year for machines older than five years.

Can I use my washing machine if it won't drain?
No – running more cycles risks the pump motor and can flood the floor. Drain it manually via the pump filter, then have the cause fixed.
How much does a drain pump replacement cost in Singapore?
It is one of the cheaper repairs. You pay the S$40–60 transport & diagnostic fee plus the pump and labour, quoted to you on WhatsApp before the visit. It is almost always far below the cost of a new machine.
Why does my washer drain but not spin?
Usually the machine is protecting itself: an unbalanced load, a worn door lock, or a drainage problem that leaves too much water for the spin sensor. Try redistributing the load first; if it persists, the lock or pressure switch may need replacing.
